News and Events

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

CALL OUT FOR A PIZZA and/or PENGUIN SHIRT: Jody is putting a quilt of our t-shirts together for Ellen (to thank our pin/tee designer for the past 9 years). We are missing the PIZZA and the PENGUIN shirt. If you have one you could donate (perhaps a shirt is outgrown but still in good shape - doesn't need to be in new condition) to the cause could you email Beth bmanley@ctom.org? We would be so grateful!

REGISTRATION: If you have had problems registering for the CTOM State Tournament, contact Brian (860) 219-9799 or bwagar@ctom.org for assistance! Get your judge names in so we can move forward and begin to schedule the tournament. Without those names, teams may not be registered. Thanks!

LOOKING FOR SPON PROBLEMS?: Check out our SponZone. Also, on www.odysseyofthemind.com click on 'local contacts' which will take you to a map. Click on Pennsylvania and Virginia for loads of spon problems. Other states have spon problems, just click on other states. For great books, games and other creative problem solving, brainstorming, out-of-the- box thinking resources, check out Fox Imaging (formerly Zancas). If you are running a scrimmage, just contact Beth at bmanley@ctom.org and she'll send some out to you. Have fun with SPON!

TOURNAMENTS?: We'll post information regarding the Semi-Finals, IF we have one. We can't guarantee we won't have a Semi-Finals but it's most likely that we'll use the same solution as last year, divide a group too large to compete before 1 judging team into 2 groups (randomly selected). And like last year, the top two teams in each group will advance to World Finals. We'll make these decisions when we have the final count of teams, by the end of January at the latest!

PROGRAM GUIDE: Be sure to check the Odyssey of the Mind Program Guide for the important guidelines every coach and team needs to know.

CTOM RESOURCES:

DONATE NOW!---If you are looking to donate to a worthy cause this holiday season, consider CTOM. We work hard to keep our costs as low as possible so that as many students as possible can participate, including some who wouldn't be able to participate at all without assistance from our Anderson Award. Odyssey of the Mind is still one of the most cost effective programs available for students. In Odyssey, students learn how to build a car that navigates an obstacle course or to design a balsa wood structure that holds 1000 pounds, to write and present a creative, original performance, to conquer failure, to command success and to solve problems the Odyssey Team has never seen before!

--  Our beloved CTOM Board Member, Problem Co-Captain on Problem #5, Jill Riggles, passed away in November, after a year long struggle with breast cancer. Her lively Odyssey spirit, her quick wit, and her down-to earth common sense helped make CTOM what it is today. We will miss her tremendously. She is our inspiration, our own "Odyssey Angel."    (Riggles Family 120 Main St. Durham, CT 06455).
