Coaches Corner

Spontaneous Scrimmages

In the Spontaneous portion of the competition, the teams must solve a problem they have never seen before in 8 minutes before a team of judges without their coach! Teams generally practice spontaneous problems in their team meetings but we offer a day of scrimmages (as do other towns around the state- call us to see if their is a scrimmage near you) in order for teams to practice their spontaneous problem solving skills and learn from other teams participating. Often our Division III students (high school division) are the judges, sharing what they have learned over the years with our younger participants and learning themselves what it's like to be a judge on the other side of the timer! The CTOM Spontaneous Scrimmages, held in late February or early March, are open to Division I and Division II teams. First year teams are given preference and signing up for it is a first come, first served part of CTOM registration.
